Established in the year 1996, Prem Kishan Khanna Government Degree College stands as a beacon of higher education in the historic city of Jalalabad, district Shahjahanpur. The foundation of this institution was laid by the Department of Higher Education, Government of Uttar Pradesh, with the primary objective of bringing quality and affordable degree-level education to the doorstep of students belonging to the rural and semi-urban demography of this region.

The Inspiration: Shri Prem Kishan Khanna

The college takes immense pride in bearing the name of the great Indian freedom fighter and revolutionary, Shri Prem Kishan Khanna. Born in 1894, he was a prominent member of the Hindustan Republican Association (HRA) and a close associate of legendary martyrs Ram Prasad Bismil and Ashfaqulla Khan.

He is most notably remembered for his crucial role in the Kakori Train Action of 1925, where he provided his licensed Mauser pistol to Ram Prasad Bismil. For his undying love for the motherland, he endured rigorous imprisonment in the Cellular Jail (Kala Pani) in the Andamans. After India gained independence, he continued to serve the public and was elected as a Member of Parliament from Shahjahanpur. Naming the college after him was a tribute by the government to ensure that the younger generation remains inspired by his immense sacrifices and patriotism.

Academic Evolution

The college commenced its academic journey with a handful of subjects in the Faculty of Arts (B.A.). Over the years, fighting through various infrastructural and geographical challenges, the institution has carved a niche for itself. Today, it operates under the affiliation of M.J.P. Rohilkhand University, Bareilly.

Recognizing the growing need for professional and commerce education, the college expanded its horizons by introducing the Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) program under the self-financed scheme. Currently, the institution is vigorously implementing the framework of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, focusing on multidisciplinary education, skill enhancement, and holistic development.
